Friggatriskaidekaphobia -The fear of Friday The 13th

Have you ever heard about the tales of how bad is the sixth day of the week whenever the date happens to be 13th? I am sure you would have some day or the other! They even gave it a name i.e.,Friggatriskaidekaphobia, which, for sure means morbid and irrational fear of Friday,The 13th. People keep talking about the 13th Friday and in worst case, media force them to fear further.

Yes, this is saddening but true that instead of educating masses about the superstition of Friday, the 13th they are encouraging by making astrologers sit in the studio and make people more phobic about it.

There happens to be only one such occurrence in 2011, in the month of may that the 13th is Friday. Coincidently,  it happens to be my semester exam day too. I was scared by many people about the unluckiness of this day even news channels were suggesting silly ways on how not to leave house or to be aware of the surroundings, etc. This made my parents rather worried and they repeatedly asked me whether I am prepared for the exam or be careful while giving exams and all that (which they are never bothered of otherwise!). Well, my exam went well and I survived the day pretty much safe. That day made me realize that how deeply woven are these superstitions in our life that we can't ignore it even if we want to. Then I googled it and to my utter surprise all those pages tells me how to fear it more (and it had a name too!!).

Templars being burned at the stake
The origin of the fear is not clear anywhere at all, it seems like a fun story of one of our ancestors which gradually became horror story. More believed story is what Dan Brown explains in his best-seller "The Da Vinci Code". He correlated the this superstition with the Knights Templar(to know more about knights templar click here). According to him, church issued secret orders to find and finish all the knights because of them being too powerful and threatening, they declared knights templar as SATAN worshipers. To exterminate them they were burned them at stake in Paris and that unlucky day happened to be 13th October, 1307, FRIDAY.

The internet is filled with superstitious stories that are feared and believed by most of us. We just relate the coincidental accidents or bad happenings to them and give deeper roots to these baseless stories. This is all matter of our mind and we have to help others loosen up on this end and for once make the world free of these stupid and meaningless superstition.
